Save Tongo Lizards - Matthew Clegg
What is a Tongo Lizard?
Tongo Lizards have many defensive strategies including; Biting, scaring or simply playing dead. Tongo Lizards are rarely bitten, tending them to have a lot of blood. And the more blood, the more energetic, the more energetic, the more speed to escape. Tongo Lizards are insectivores, feeding on ants, termites, butterflies, gnats, bees and other insects. Some lizard species are omnivores, feeding on both plants and small animals. Some exclusively feed on plants since they are herbivores. Tongo Lizards are mainly fed on by snakes. Anacondas, Pythons, Rattlesnakes you name it! But they are usually ate by water snakes when they are bathing/drinking. As babies the mother usually stays with their child for 10 – 12 months. Babies are then left by the lake to survive. Babies are more likely to be poached as they are slower and have less skills and knowledge than a fully grown Tongo Lizard.
